If a person is risen, then we may infer that he has died and was buried. And in this context we find death mentioned. In verse 20 in the preceding chapter we find that the believer should die with Christ from the rudiments of the world. A story is told of two artists commissioned to compete in painting a picture depicting peace. One painted a valley of beautiful trees and flowers surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The other painted a storm-tossed scene, perhaps something like the picture above, in which a little bird was shown peacefully and securely nested in the cleft of a rock. We emphasize in our teaching that people READ the Bible, and once in a while we do give a lesson on reading, emphasis and so on. When I was a youngster, we had Bible reading in the home. Mother did the reading and Dad did the praying, and I of course listened. That may sound ritualistic in a way, and maybe it was, but I think some ritual is pretty good. A lot of things that came to my ears when that was being read, I didn't forget. Mother was a good reader. She had learned to read with emphasis, and how to watch the punctuation. Also, she tried to understand what she was reading - that makes all the difference in the world.

"...in love may grow up unto Him, the all things Which is the Head, even Christ." Now, we've taken the liberty here of moving a comma. And why? Well, it does not interfere with the sentence structure in the Greek, and it does parallel the expression in the doctrinal section in Eph. 3:17 and 18, "...that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend..." So the growth is dependent on being rooted in love. And so in love we should grow up unto Him. All too often man wants to substitute fear for love. But here it is, NO LOVE - NO GROWTH!

When we get to the last chapters of Acts, we find that the ministry of the 12 of the kingdom of heaven has about ceased. Little is heard of it. Paul is still carrying on with the same message, but he is being rejected in about every quarter. Finally he is arrested in Jerusalem, imprisoned at Caesarea for two years, and finally sent to Rome. There he made his final appeal to the Jews to accept Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah and King, reasoning with them from morning to night from Moses and the Prophets.

1.) Matthew 3:16, has something to say about God's Spirit. It doesn't say any one else saw this manifestation, but “Hesaw.” John may have seen it, we don't know. This was not a dove descending, but “like a dove.” Cp. Acts 2:3, “cloven tongues like as offire” --- doesn't say there was any fire. From this verse in Mt. we know He had the testimony from the Father in heaven, it was a light, “lighting upon Him.”

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” (II Tim. 2:15.)
We see right division from the very start. In Genesis, the darkness is divided from the light and the waters below and above the firmament are divided by a new firmament, or heaven it is called. In studying the Bible today to find our place in God’s purpose, there’s another division we have to observe or know about. We don’t have this division today, but it has been, and that is Jew and Gentile.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the world. He walked in Eden with Adam, Enoch walked with Him. He visited Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, making great promises to them. He dwelt in the Shekinah glory of the tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel. All things were made by Him, and the world was made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. With Him as the Architect, the world must have been a lovely and beautiful place in the beginning, for in the beginning He as Elohim created the heavens and the earth. They were not created in vain or empty, but to be inhabited. But sin entered and with sin came selfishness and personal ambition, and the world knew Him not. They willfully did not choose to know Him nor acknowledge Him is the meaning of these words. They trusted in their own wisdom and became fools. They worshiped the man and then descended the scale till they were bowing down to beetles and bugs and other creeping things, even the serpent. There is only one end for the creature who will not recognize his Creator.
