The Gospel of John #46

We are continuing our review of the Gospel of John, Chapter 8, which is continuing the debate on whether or not the rulers should believe that this man Jesus is indeed the Christ.
Vs. John 8:7 “So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” These men seem to be relentless in trying to trip up the Lord with questions that they believe He will not be able to answer correctly.
Vs. John 8:8 “And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.” We do not want to speculate on what the Lord wrote, but how the people responded to His actions was very effective in getting the to leave,
Vs. John 8:9 “And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.” The elders came under conviction first and left the scene first as we might expect of them.
Vs. John 8:10 “When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?” Under the law, it was required that she have two or more witnesses to be condemned and we see the Lord response to this situation in the next verse.
Vs. John 8:11 “She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.” How amazing it is that the Lord with His great patience and love could forgive this woman in the manner that He did. Grace and truth is displayed here rather than God’s wrath or vengeance.
Vs. John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” This verse is stating very clearly that the Lord Jesus is God who is the Light of the world. Those who believe and choose to follow im will have light for their path so they will not stumble.
Vs. John 8:13 “The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.” The religious leaders finally think that they have cause to call Him a liar because of His claiming to be the Light of the world.
Vs. John 8:14 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.” Even when the Lord speaks plainly concerning Who He is they refuse to believe His words.
Vs. John 8:15. “Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.” The Pharisees judged the outward appearance (flesh), While the Lord will judge the inner man and his inward intentions (spiritual). ... continued.
