The Gospel of John #24

We are continuing our review of the Gospel of John and the next point that the Lord is making is that He did not come to this earth to judge them.

Vs. Joh 5:38 “Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.” It is the law that was given to Moses that would be used to judge them. The law was not given to Israel to make them righteous but rather to prove that they needed a Saviour. When the Lord returns to the earth the second time He will judge His people and rule with a rod of iron. In Rev. 2:27 “And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.” The principle of “Right Division” needs to be applied so that the Scriptures can be understood.

Vs. Joh 5:46 “For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.” The Lord is spoken of as the suffering Messiah as well as the conquering King throughout the Scriptures. It is up to the reader to believe or reject His truth. As in Lu 24:44 “And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”

Vs. Joh 5:47 “But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?” The Lord does not contradict what was written by Moses but rather He fulfills the Scriptures. Mt 22:29 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” We need to know and believe what God has said in the Word of God.

Vs. Joh 6:1 “After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.” We see that after the Lord reveals the truth to those at Jerusalem, He then moves on to a new location. He is going to perform yet another miracle to prove that He is the Christ, but He is not yet ready to establish His kingdom on the earth.

Vs. Joh 6:2 “And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.” This multitude is interested in seeing what the Lord is going to do next. The problem with their thinking was that they are interested in what the Lord was going to do for them rather than asking what the Lord would have them do for Him.

Vs. Joh 6:3 “And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.” The Lord’s timing is always perfect and He knows the hearts of those who are following after Him. He does however reveal to His disciples what He is going to do next.
