By Charles H. Welch & Stuart Allen

Book Review by Robert Guenther
The Berean Expositor is a collection of separate issues of a magazine by the same name bound together in book form. The title is taken from Acts 17:11,” these (the Bereans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” We currently have 18 books covering volumes 1 - 54. There are also two index booklets for volumes. 1 - 42. One index covers Scriptures references, the other lists Hebrew and Greek words. These books can best be used to reference particular subject.

Mr. Welch started the Berean Expositor magazine in 1909 and was the principal writer until his death in 1967. Mr. Stuart Allen is now the primary writer, but others also contribute to this effort. The desire of these authors has been to open up the Word, to expose for our joy, instruction, correction, and edification its wondrous teaching to the glory of the Lord.

The scope of these papers has been to teach two study principles: dispensational truth and doctrinal teaching. Dispensational truth is that which is given for a certain time and for a certain group of people to follow (II Timothy 2:15). We consider those books written by the Apostle Paul after the setting aside of Israel at Acts 28:28 to be our marching order for today. Doctrinal teaching applies to our daily walk before the Lord and whether or not we please him.

The Berean Expositor is published in London, England by the Berean publishing trust. Their goal is to promote the unity of the Spirit; one foundation which Christ laid down; one authority in which we can believe in, that being the Scriptures; and finally applying the principle of rightly dividing the Word of Truth. The magazine is printed bi-monthly and you can subscribe to it by contacting TFT.

Many people have gotten involved in the reprinting and preserving of the Berean Expositor in bound volume form, including our former editor, Mr. Oscar Baker. We are attempting to provide the necessary means to accomplish this task, as well as trying to distribute other books by Mr. Welch.

In conclusion, we wish to say that we feel that there is not a better set of reference books then the Berean Expositor that you could have in your study library. You owe it to yourself to read and study the articles that these men have left for us to enjoy.
